July 2015 in Review

Looking back at this month, it was crazy busy. I didn't realize how much we packed into this month. I've really tried to stay on top of organizing and journalizing about all of our fun activities this month (and not getting behind too far). I'm really glad that I had the time, energy, and motivation to sit down and write about all of our fun adventures because this month was really fun. The older and older, and more interactive, these two kiddos get... the more and more fun it is to get out and explore and do fun things together. It's like Christmas for me watching their little faces light up with delight when we get out of the house and just play!

Here's a brief recap of the fun places we went during the month:

July 4
Concord Mall and The Disney Store
July 7
At the pool with Marianne Dunn plus some

Kinder Egg Surprise with Eliza and Harrison

Whew! I think that about covers all the fun activities we were able to get out and do. But it doesn't even begin to touch on the little nuances and achievements that each child surprised me with this month!

Here are some other significant events that just blew me away!

* Marco rolled right out of his basinet.
I had felt prompted to put his basinet on the floor while he napped on this particular day, and I'm glad I followed that prompting because when I came to get him, he had rolled right over the side and was on the floor. This meant it was time to pull out the pack and play and say good-bye to the basinet! Lily still doesn't climb out of her crib (well she has twice but it scares her enough that she hasn't done it since), so I don't want to move her to a bed until I absolutely have to. Poor Marco. He doesn't have a cute decorated nursery. I guess I'll just have to make up for it in other areas!

*Marco turned 6 months.
And the day before he cut his very first tooth! That is four months faster than his sister did! He was pretty whiney that day and I just couldn't figure out why. The next day when I stuck my finger in his mouth and felt a sharp little tooth, all the fussiness from the day before made sense. Even though he is getting teeth, he is still such a happy happy happy baby. He hardly ever cries. He loves to chat with me and let me know how much he loves me through all his baby chatter.

*Marco's Doctor Appointment.
I love wellness checkups and seeing how much my kids have progressed, grown, etc. from our last visit. However, this visit I learned that Marco is small for his age and therefore we need to come back in a month to make sure he's growing properly. We also got advised on how to help him sleep through the night. And the first week of "sleep training" was awful. I got less than 4 hours of sleep for about 5 or 6 days straight and the following week had a headache I just couldn't shake. However, once he started sleeping through the night, I started sleeping 8-11 hours along with him so that I could catch up on all the sleep I had missed out on from the prior week.

*Lily falls asleep on her own.
Twice this month Lily has played so hard that when it was time for her to go to bed she went upstairs, went potty, grabbed her yellow blankie, climbed up on Mommy's bed and put herself to sleep. Where was I right? I was right across the hall nursing Marco watching her take all the necessary steps to get ready for her nap. I thought it was quite cute and can't wait until her putting herself to sleep becomes a daily ritual.

* Church toys have made life easier.
I have discovered how to get something out of sacrament meeting. It's called: One. Sit in the pews (not the chairs in the cultural hall). This means arriving early enough to get a seat in the pews. Two. Bring a whole bag of toys. Three. Change out the toys every 5-8 minutes to keep her attention focused on the toys so you can focus on the talks. It's a lot of preparation and a lot of work. But so worth it when they are happy and you aren't the one entertaining them!

* Puzzle Queen.
Lily is my puzzle queen. I wasn't ready to pull out puzzles yet. But her babcia in Poland sent her two Frozen puzzles. One day while I was cooking dinner it was quiet in the living room. Which only means one thing: she is up to something. But this time that something was a good thing. She was busy putting together puzzles. This is what I walked up to. One puzzle done, the other almost done. It was a miracle. And guess what? The very next day we went to the dollar store and spend $12 and bought 12 new puzzles. It was worth every dollar to keep her quiet. The only problem? That after two weeks, or so, they were too easy for her. So... back to the dollar store for harder puzzles. This will be my ritual over the next few months.

* Lily loves cards.
In addition to puzzles Lily loves matching cards. She got some from Babcia in the mail, and she found some of my old "collector" cards that I had from when I was a little girl. She loves looking at them and categorizing, cataloging, and organizing them into sections. It's fun to watch her little mind at work. It's also fascinating to see how intelligent and methodical she is.
* Lily's Lizards.
Since it's been so hot we have had lizards visit our front porch daily. It's one of Lily's favorite past times to go to the blinds next to our front door and look outside to see if she can spot any lizards. When she does the whole house is made aware of the lizards lying on our patio.

* Lily nursing Sulley
This is the classic picture that every mom needs to take of their kids when they decide to nurse their dolls/animals/etc. when you are nursing the baby.

To go along with all the cute pictures I'd like to share some of my favorite sayings that Lily has come up with this month. I used to try to keep tabs on every new word that she used, but her vocabulary is increasing exponentially now that I just can't keep up. So instead, I'll just write about ones that really caught my attention or made me smile.

 - Buzz Year Light
I have tried and tried to correct this one, but every time Lily talks about 'Toy Story' and 'Woody' and 'Buzz Lightyear' she says, "Buzz Year Light." She even prays for him in this way. Because of this cute way she says his name, I'm pretty sure I'm going to dress her up as "Buzz Year Light" for Halloween.

Barbie Time out for hitting Lily
I have really been working with Lily on not hitting. I don't want to be the mother that no one wants to come visit because their child beats up on everyone else, so whenever she hits (which is only when she throws a temper tantrum and I pretend to throw one with her), she tries to hit me. She's gotten to the point where she throws her arm back, winds up to hit me, and then stops because she knows that if she hits me she will be put in time out. Well, one day I pulled out one of my old barbies from when I was a little girl. Lily took one look at this barbie and put her in "time out." I asked Lily why the Barbie was in time out and she, very seriously, told me it was because "Barbie hit Lily." So, at least she's learning and applying her teachings well.

Mommy look cute
And my very, very favorite thing that happened this month...
I was getting ready (I think for our Chick-fil-a date with Marin, Caleb, and AJ). I put on my makeup, clothes, and stepped out of my room and into Lily's room (where she was playing and reading books to her monsters). Lily took one look at me and said, "Mommy look cute." I dropped down to my knees and hugged the life out of her. This was by far the most rewarding thing that happened this whole month. It's amazing how such a simple thing, said by your child, can make you so happy you just want to burst. I wanted to publicize it to the world, but like Mary in the New Testament, I decided to keep these things in my heart. I never want to forget this moment, or how I felt. I just love this little girl so much.

And last, but not least, here are my favorite "mis"pronunciations that occurred this month:
* frog says "oh-beart" (instead of "ribbit")
* mermaid is Lily-pronounced: "Oar-aid"

Bring on August!
