I think that my very, very favorite thing that started occurring this month was not Lily's interaction with Marco... but rather his interaction with her. He looks at her all the time. He watches what she is doing. He smiles when she plays with him. And Lily can instantly brighten any mood he's in. I try to capture Marco's admiration for Lily on film... but sometimes it hasn't been easy. Here are some of my favorite moments I have been able to snap a quick photo of:
Marco is so patient when Lily wants to play with him... he doesn't mind being dressed up in bows.
Or in pink socks...
The more and more I watch these two interact with each other, the more and more grateful I am that we decided to have a second child. They are going to be best friends when they grow up. I love watching the new things, besides hugging, kissing, and smothering him, that Lily teaches and shares with Marco each day.
These pictures is one of my favorites because it shows Marco interacting, and trying to play, with Lily. The smile on his face says it all!
And while it has been fun to see them love and play with each other, it has also been crazy at how fast Lily is learning and growing each day.
Some new songs that she added to her repertoire (that I can remember):
Row Row Row your boat
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Hot Dog Song
Some some new phrases that she has included in her vocabulary:
Where Daddy go? Where Mommy Go? Where Marco Go?
Go Stairs.
Bath bubbles.
Hot Dog Song. Bus Song. Bunny song. Child God Song.
Hands Sticky. Wash hands.
At this point she pretty much mimics anything that I have to say
I know that you aren't supposed to let your child lick the batter because of Salmonella poisoning, or whatever, but I just couldn't resist. She was really hesitant to try this strange new sticky substance on the mixer... and since Mommy doesn't like chocolate, I sure wasn't going to emulate what to do. Nevertheless, I laid the mixer down by her and eventually her curiosity won over and she tried the chocolate cake batter. While she liked it, she was done after about three licks... so I can't decide if she takes after me (and doesn't like chocolate) or her Daddy (who loves chocolate) or maybe she's a good happy-medium between the two of us.
This month Lily also has a new obsession with hats. Every night for a week she would cry if we didn't put this very hat on her to go to bed in. Once it was on her head, the tears went away and the sandman came to put Lily to sleep.
But if she can't find a hat to wear, she makes one up for herself. Notice the funnel was this day's choice of hat. She had to wear it, Marco had to wear it, I had to wear the funnel - and so did every stuffed animal whose head was small enough to actually have this be considered a hat.
When we get in the car she tries to guess where we are going.
The "Guessing List" usually goes like this:
Animals: Giraffe, Elephant, Lion?
Swings?
Costco? Pizza? Costco?
Molly, Claire?
Marco Doctor?
(In pretty much that order)
And now that her vocabulary has increased she dictates to us everything that we drive by, or anything that she wants to see while we are on our car ride. Actually, car rides are quite pleasant with this little girl as long as you don't mind talking a lot and playing along with her guessing games or "i spy" games.
I've been waiting for this one to happen for a while now. And it only happened a handful of times this month... but Lily started nursing doll-doll. Except I think that doll-doll gets her nourishment from Lily's belly-button.
Instead of saying Potty potty when she needs to go... One day she said "Lily go bathroom." my jaw dropped. She has never said "Bathroom"... And I never say this word either. She wants to be very independent and wash her hands when she is finished (or whenever they are sticky).
In anticipation for a long road trip (5.5 hours), we purchased Frozen headphones for Lily. Thinking that the dictation would cease and the car ride would be nice and quiet. Well, we were wrong in our thinking because she doesn't like to listen to the headphones. It was a novelty the first day that wore off quickly thereafter. I think that maybe when she gets a little bit older these headphones will be quite the hit!
And her not liking the headphones had nothing to do with it being Frozen. Even though she won't listen, the headphones have to be in her lap. When she got a package from Babcia containing frozen pants, Lily was elated and when I'm lazy and let her pick out her outfit for the day - these pants are always brought to me so I can help her put them on. Soon the weather will be way to humid and warm for pants, but until then the pants are a favorite item to be worn!
Lily prays all by herself (I have videos to verify and prove this) and one of her favorite things to pray for include: animals (of any kind), the garbage truck (on Monday nights), and her Monsters (all of whom get prayed for by name - except "Art" and "Terry and Terri").
Walks are such a pleasant experience when the cows are out, the garbage truck is making his runs, or when I have enough energy to drive an hour to the zoo. Otherwise I let her look at my phone so I can get my morning walk in.
And... in addition to praying for all her monsters, they all have to be snuggling her for her to fall asleep (all except "Art"... he's not allowed in the crib with her).
Lily wants to play and be included so badly. She loves having friends over and going to the park to play. This specific day the balls were her best friends. She put one in each swing and went back and forth between the two swings and pushed the swings making sure that the balls were in constant motion.
But friends are always better than soccer balls... and Lily is in heaven whenever she has someone nearby to play with or tag-along with.

But Lily's favorite friend is her Daddy. When he comes home he does such fun things with her and she is so eager to participate or help him.
The only other achievements of Lily's have been (that I have no pictures of):
* Her sticking a pea up her nose and us having to rush to the Doctor's office to get it out. Luckily, she swallowed it (or something) once the doctor started checking for it.
*On mother's day she kept saying either "Happy Day" or "Happy Mother" to me.
On to Marco...
Up until May, I felt like a new woman getting 8 hours of sleep at night. And then, just overnight, we were back to being crazy zombies because he gets us up in the middle of the night. Every night. Sometimes multiple times a night. But this too shall pass!
Don't let the above picture fool you, he has reached a stage where he hates his car seat (when in the car). It's the only thing we can use to get him to fall asleep at church (Daddy's special trick, not mine)... but Lily was the same way at this age, and I'm sure he'll grow out of it the same way that she did.
But while Marco hates his car seat, he loves his bumbo and loves sitting up.
In May, Marco took his first road trip. This was one of our 17 (or more) pit stops we had to make. Remember how I said he hated being in the car in his car seat, but loved sitting up... this picture is evidence of how happy he was when we were not driving on our way to DC.
In May Marco had his four month Doctor Appointment and was all smiles. Even with his shots he cried for no more than 30 seconds... and then fell asleep promptly 30 seconds after he finished crying.
And, Dear Marco, I'm sorry that I'm the worst parent at giving you "tummy time". Hopefully, by the time you're crawling or walking, you'll forgive me... but this is the reason why tummy time is impossible. I set you down, you smile and want to play...
... and then you get attacked by your little sister who wants to smother you with love and attention.
Overall we are grateful that you are a happy, complacent, mellow, and downright good baby. I couldn't feel more blessed to have you be a part of our family. While you, Marco, didn't have as many achievements as Lily - you made up for it by warming our hearts each time I saw one of your hundreds of smiles!
