June 2015 in Review

It is getting harder and harder each month to record the little nuances that both Lily and Marco do each day.  Each of their achievements seem to be growing and growing and I can't seem to catch up with them.  It seems like photos are the only way to capture some of these precious moments and the only way I can remember them for when they get older.

Here are some of the things that I do remember Lily really catching on to, or reiterating a lot during the month of June.

New Songs:
London Bridge is falling down
Ring around the Rosies
Let it Go
For the First time in Forever
I’m so glad when Daddy comes home

New phrases:
Goodnight
Nap
Train
Airplane
Mike wazowski
Sulley
Mr waternoose
Grammys house
Badger owie
Chicken
Socks on. Socks off. Clothes on. Clothes off. Shirt on.... Etc.
"Oh no"
She pretty much repeats saying we say
Dictates what is going on in a movie
Where Chris Go? Where Katie Go?
Pick Peas Garden
Strawberries Garden
Get Wet
Raspberries Garden
Badger! Sit Down!
Weird Dinosaur Noises and raspy voice

This month Lily went through this weird fetish where she liked to be wrapped up tight.  Naps, bedtime, and just for fun were all excuses for her to get all snuggled up in her yellow blankie.
Before Summer (and they crazy humidity that comes along with it) decides to hit, we hit the neighborhood and went walking daily.  We saw all sorts of interesting creatures and animal life.
* Lots of Bugs
* 1 Turtle
* Deer
* Bunnies
* Many dogs
* 4 Cows
* 1 dead snake and numerous snake skins
* And lots and lots of "big trucks

I thought that with Lily's obsession with "big trucks" she would love the fire truck and want to get it in it.  I was wrong.  All of a sudden large crowds of people have made Lily extremely anxious and nervous.  She wouldn't get in the truck because it meant leaving me and I would have been out of sight.  Poor girl.  She's even getting separation anxiety when I ask her to stand next to her friends to take photos.  At least she wasn't nervous about this photo op.  (I think it's because she was crushing on the little boy sitting next to her).

This month Lily seems to have grasped more difficult puzzles, not just the ones with knobs that you match pictures.  She received a Frozen 20 piece puzzle from Babcia and after putting it together with her two or three dozen times, she was able to do it all on her own.  She is one smart cookie.

Lily continues to love to help me out in any way possible.  Not only is she great at cleaning up her messes, or tattling on people when they make messes, but she really makes my life easier, and more entertaining, with how helpful she is.
Even though this girl has more toys than she knows what to do with, she still loves to read!

And she still loves her little monsters and figurines.  She is such a good Mommy and makes sure that they are taken care of by getting baths, playing ring-around-the-rosie together, or sleeping with her.

This month, bath time became incredibly easier.  Lily decided she wanted to take all her baths in "Marco's Bath" or with Mommy in the shower.

Any excuse to be in water or play with water Lily takes full advantage of.
And Lily also continues to love and care for her baby brother Marco.

While Marco doesn't have as many achievements as Lily each month, he is still growing and as happy as ever. However, Marco has surprised us all with his new ability to scoot everywhere (while laying on his back) and rolling all over (from front to back and back to front) his preferred side to roll over on is his right, but that doesn't stop him from using his left.  Marco has also advanced to waking up only once at night.  Dream feeding was introduced in May and continued this month and it showed signs of improvement because he went from 3 hour stretches to 4 hours stretches - to now - 5 hour stretches.  Life keeps getting better and better, and easier and easier with him.

This month Marco found his feet and I introduced toys to him.  I feel awful that it took me this long to realize that he probably wanted toys to play with.  When Lily was a baby she had toys in her crib and carseat before she could even grab them. This little guy had to wait until I got my stuff together to give him toys.  Classic example of second child syndrome.
In any case, he continues to give great smiles and remain as happy as always!

In June we took a little staycation out to Utah.
It was a total surprise for my mom, who had no idea we were on our way.  Waking up the kids in the middle of the night was so worth it to see my mom so happy when she realized we were there to spend some time with her!

Lily was sure happy to see Grammy and Papa.

Marco also loved all the attention that he received. This little boy became ultra spoiled and ever since the trip to Utah, hates it when he's not being held.

Lily became Grammy's little helper.  Not only did she want to pick [insert fruit/veggie here] in the garden, but she had Grammy wrapped around her little finger.  She was able to convince Grammy to draw anything she wanted, eat anything she wanted, or watch anything she wanted.

Speaking of having Grammy wrapped around her finger, have I mentioned Papa yet?  This little girl seemed to find a way to confiscate any electronics that Grandpa was playing with and turn it into her own personal pleasure. I even have pictures of Grandpa falling asleep as Lily navigates the iPad.

Lily loved being with Grammy so much that she felt safe and comfortable and fell right asleep in her arms during church.  One o'clock church is seriously a killer.  I don't know how people do it. It seems like kids either have to miss their naps completely (and you go insane) or they take late naps after church (and you are up super late fighting them to go to bed).  It's a no-win situation.

While we were in Utah, Lily got to meet a lot of fun new faces.
The first day we were there, we went grocery shopping - and guess who we ran into?  Elsa, Anna, and Olaf (the other guys didn't matter).  She wasn't too keen on being friendly with Olaf, but gave Anna and Elsa hugs right away and told them all about how she bumped her knee and had to get a Band-Aid.

We also got to meet some of our friends for Lunch, Dinner, or just for fun.  Lily was in heaven with all the attention that she received and all the new friends she felt like she was also making.

Out of all the new friends that Lily met in Utah, her favorite was her cousin Madeline.  She had so much fun playing with Madeline.  At night, when she said her prayers, right next to Olaf, Mr. Waternoose, and Doll-doll - Madeline's name now appeared.  She asked every day about Madeline and still gets in the car and asks if we are going to Bridgett's house to see her.

Lily met Nana when she was a baby, but since we aren't around much she doesn't remember who she is. Marco had never met Nana. It was essential that we got a photo of all of us together.  When someone is 105 years old, you just never know how much longer we get photo opportunities like this.

While we were in Utah, we decided to take a lot of fun little day trips to various places.  The first one we took was to our Alma Mater - BYU! Michal wanted to go to introduce Lily to the Creamery's Chocolate Milk (which she continues to ask for every day)! It was one of my favorite little trips because it was like taking a "stroll down memory lane."  I think it will be so fun to take the kids here again when they get older and tell them stories about our time in College.  We want to go here as often as possible so that as they grow up they will look forward to attending BYU. They will get to know some of the best friends of their lives, learn a great education, and of course - eat BYU chocolate milk (and ice cream).

Michal also wanted to take Lily on a train ride.  Her enthusiasm lasted for a total of six minutes.  And then she kept asking to "get off bus." Michal's heart sank when she was over our little FrontRunner excursion.

But we made up for her boredom by taking her to the Disney Store for the very first time. This little girl wanted everything. She thought that if she was holding it, it meant we would purchase it for her. Not only was she wrong, but she was so cute trying to carry the whole store around with her!

After Daddy left and went back to North Carolina, Grammy and I tried to keep the kids busy and entertained by running around like crazy and taking them on all sorts of fun adventures... like...

~~ Temple Square ~~
Here Lily told me that Jesus had an "owie" in his foot and his hands.  And while she kept pointing to him and saying "Jesus," she didn't want to get anywhere near him because he was "Big Jesus" and it made her super nervous
She loved walking around Temple Square with Grammy.  She wanted to pick smell every flower and jump in look at all the water fixtures (fountains, pools, etc.).
Who doesn't love Temple Square?

One night for FHE we decided to take Lily to the park. What little kid doesn't like the park? Normally Lily is enamored with swings and doesn't want to get off her swing, but this time she wanted to explore all the fun new fixtures there were for her to play with!

~~ The Zoo ~~
At Utah's Hogle Zoo, Lily was able to get up close and personal with a lot of the animals there. Had glass not been in the way, she probably would have reached out and pet these animals. At the zoo in North Carolina, all the animal enclosures/habitats are very large and spacious, so you can only see animals from a distance.

Not only were you able to see animals up close, but they had great shows that they put on to entertain visitors.  They had a whole show about Elephants, Birds, and Seals.  Each show was very interactive about 30-45 minutes long and you learned more than sitting home watching the Discovery Channel.
We really enjoyed our time at the zoo and from this trip, Lily's new favorite animal is the Owl, "who who."

~~ Thanksgiving Point ~~
Bridgett had a family pass to go to Thanksgiving Point, so we tagged along with her one morning and went to the Children's Museum of Curiosity. Lily was more excited about having a friend to hold hands with than actually playing and exploring the museum. In fact, Lily was so excited to play with Madeline that she wore the shirt Madeline got for her so that they could be twinners for each of their photos!
Her favorite exhibit was full of fake soft fruit toys. She went around "shopping" putting as many things in her basket as physically possible. (I really do believe that she thinks the more she has the better (see: Disney Store, Crib, toys, etc.)).

After the museum Grammy had her hands full with two little girls that sat next to her. (I secretly think that she liked all the attention from these twinner sweethearts).
Madeline's house was just as cool as the museum because it contained lots of new and exciting toys that were shared with Lily. Lily did NOT want to leave and kept asking to go back.

~~ In the Water ~~
Utah was going through a drought so my parents were only permitted to water their lawn twice a week.  We made sure that when they watered, Lily helped out... and got wet in the process.  After playing in the water she would go around saying, "All wet" to anyone who would listen. To keep cool on days where we couldn't water we went went swimming at the Sirrine Family's brand new pool.  Lily didn't want to leave and kept asking to go back. Lily just loves the water, so I need to capitalize on the situation and put her in swimming lessons so that she doesn't jump in water when I'm not looking.

Lily loved going to Church with Grammy and loved all the attention that she received.  The first Sunday back in Winston-Salem Lily cried when being dropped off to her Nursery class because she wanted to go to "Grammy class." Seriously though, who doesn't want to go to class with Grammy?  She makes it so much fun. We have never had the same calling in church, but when I do I'll be sure to call her to get advice on how to make things so fun.

Did I mention that Marco loved, loved, loved being held while we were in Utah?  He was such a happy boy because he was always being held!

Overall, I'd say we had a pretty fun time crashing in Utah.  It was full of smiles, new adventures, and lots of love!

Saying good-bye was the hardest part of the whole month.  Good-bye's are never fun. Lily sure loves all of her grandparents and loves all the attention that she receives from anyone willing to listen.
